Welcome from our Regional President
Greetings!
I am Shayla Atkins, and It is with great honor and pleasure that I welcome you to the Iota Sweethearts, Incorporated Eastern Region website.
Iota Sweethearts began as an auxiliary to Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Incorporated in the 1960s at Morgan State College (now University), and until our incorporation in 2014, we have maintained an active involvement in the community both locally, regionally, and nationally with our Iota Brothers. As we enter this new phase of our organization, we will continue to pursue and advocate for our communities through efforts of educational, professional, and personal development.
We hope to contribute further to our communities' health, social, and scholarship opportunities through continued and new initiatives. We have collaborated with the men of Iota in initiatives such as Red Cross, St. Jude, and March for Dimes. We have raised and awarded scholarships, such as the Audrey S. Brooks Scholarship, for young women to attend college, and we have volunteered and participated in marathons that raise awareness about women's health issues, such as the Dirty Girl Mud Run. These endeavors like the ones to come not only promote scholastic success but also individual growth mentally, physically, and emotionally.
As regional president, my hope is that we move forward in the progress we have made in the nearly fifty years of service to, leadership in, and scholarship for the community.
Graciously,
Shayla Atkins
